Express parcel carrier Airborne Express has won a $20-million multi-year contract to provide ground delivery service throughout the United States for discount retailer Costco Wholesale Corp.

Costco said it would use Seattle-based Airborne's ground delivery service primarily for the return of merchandise from any of its 284 warehouse stores to vendors around the country.

Costco is a longtime customer of Airborne, as it has used a variety of Airborne's services over the past 16 years to support its international network of stores. Costco currently operates 385 warehouses, including 284 in the United States, 60 in Canada, 11 in the United Kingdom, five in Korea, three in Taiwan, two in Japan and 20 in Mexico.
