Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) has confirmed it will certify its Series 60 engine to comply with '02 emissions standards without penalties or the need for aftertreatment devices.

The engine maker said that recent press reports about the implementation of the October 1 change in emissions standards have mischaracterized DDC's technological readiness.

As previously announced, DDC will initially make approximately 95% of its current ratings available in October. As is its customary practice, DDC will submit applications for 2002 emissions certification to the EPA approximately 30 to 60 days in advance of scheduled production.

However, DDC continues to support concerns by customers and lobbying groups that the industry would be well served by a longer period of fleet test time.
