    The Smartbrake A/S from Hersham USA Inc. features driver-adjustable retarding power levels and a patented design that allows maximum retardation at engine speeds. The new exhaust brake also features controls that can be tied to engine electronics for automatic brake application.

    Unlike fixed-orifice or “butterfly valve” exhaust brakes, Smartbrake actually monitors and actively controls exhaust manifold pressures, preventing excessive pressure buildup, according to Hersham.
