The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency is tapping Los Angeles-based military contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. to expand its Border Security Development Program (BSDP) to ports of entry along the southern U.S. border.
The BSDP, which is fully deployed at more than 124 land ports of entry along the northern border with Canada, is a multi-faceted surveillance and intrusion detection system designed for land ports of entry. The CBP said its contract with Northrop Grumman includes the development of new border security technologies, including digital imagery, motion detection and remote monitoring capabilities.
“This pilot program…is designed to integrate personnel, technology, infrastructure and rapid response capability into a comprehensive border protection system,” said Kirk Evans, acting executive director of the CBP’s Program Management Office (PMO).
