Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn this week signed a major agreement to initiate a Port of Los Angeles international container security program with Modern Terminals Limited (MTL).

MTL, which provides cargo services at the port of Hong Kong, will help test several new systems, including tamper-proof locks, new inspection technology, and new inspection protocols.

This pilot project will be partially funded by a Congressional appropriation through the U.S. Dept. of Transportation under the "Operation Safe Commerce" program.
