Burlington Industries Inc. said it will phase out its trucking operations and transportation division as part of its new business model. The bankrupt textile maker said the action will be completed by February and affect 130 employees.

Instead of using its own fleet, Burlington Industries said it will outsource its logistics operations to UPS Supply Chain Solutions.

"For many years our transportation operations and private fleet have effectively served our operations," said Burlington Industries CEO George Henderson. "However, given our expanded international requirements, the time and cost of establishing our own global network is not feasible and can be best accomplished through UPS's established resources."

Company spokesperson Delores Sides said several of the employees are believed to be eligible to retire, if they choose.
