Elmar Boeckenhoff has been appointed senior vp of engineering & technology at Freightliner LLC, as well as a member of the company’s executive committee.
Bockenhoff, currently head of testing for Mercedes-Benz Vans, succeeds Michael von Mayenburg, who will retire this summer.
Von Mayenburg’s retirement caps a 41-yr. career in the truck and automotive manufacturing industry. “As Freightliner’s chief engineer since 1990, he has overseen the development of pioneering new products, a multitude of commercial vehicle innovations and patented designs,” said Chris Patterson, president of Freightliner. “As head of Freightliner engineering, his ideas shaped not only Freightliner products, but the course of North American truck technology in general.”
Boeckenhoff holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Stuttgart. He will relocate to Portland, OR, Freightliner’s headquarters, with his family.
In other Freightliner news, the company named Jack Conlan senior vp of customer support, effective immediately. Since 1998, Conlan has been president of the company’s Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) business unit.
