Online grocer HomeRuns.com has announced suspending operations, effective immediately. The company, which had operations in Boston and Washington, DC, said on its website that all orders placed after July 12 have been cancelled and that customers will not be charged.

According to company officials, efforts to raise additional capital to run the business have been unsuccessful. As a result, HomeRuns decided to begin an orderly winding down of its operations.

The announcement came three days after Webvan Group Inc., which had operations in nine metropolitan areas, had ceased operations. Three online grocers remain in operation in the US: GroceryWorks, Netgrocer.com and Peapod.
