USFreightways Corp. executive Steve Caddy has been promoted to president of USF Red Star Inc., the company's Newark, NJ-based regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier.

As vp, process integration for USFreightways, Caddy led the development and implementation of a freight management system across all of the company's five LTL carriers.

"Steve has been a huge asset to us at USFreightways," said USFreightwaysCEO Samuel K. Skinner. "I have no doubt that he will make an excellent company president and use his superior hands-on understanding of LTL procedures to further the expansion of USF Red Star."

Caddy replaces Brad Jones, who announced his retirement. Jones will serve as executive vp of USFreightways' Eastern Carrier Group until June 2003.
