The national average price for a gallon of diesel shot up three cents to $2.289 per gallon— 2.7 cents shy of the record high price the Energy Information Administration reported just two weeks ago.

The Gulf Coast saw the highest jump in fuel prices, up 5.1 cents to $2.231. The Midwest is now the cheapest region in which to fill up, at $2.230. However, not all regions posted an increase. California—the most expensive region for diesel—posted the largest rollback, at 1.2 cents to $2.57.
