Key takeaways

  • Dry van and refrigerated spot rates eased after a fuel-driven surge, while flatbed continued to strengthen.
  • FTR and DAT show mixed signals: Van and reefer freight cooled, but flatbed demand and pricing rose further.
  • Despite short-term drops, spot rates remain well above last year across all equipment types in trucking.

Last week, dry van and refrigerated spot rates dropped for the first time since the Iran war fuel price surge began, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics.

According to FTR, “dry van spot rates had eased about a half-cent during week 11, but refrigerated spot rates had surged nearly 44 cents in four straight weeks of rate increases. Flatbed spot rates, meanwhile, rose for a 15th straight week to their highest level since July 2022.”
