Dry van spot rates surge toward 2021 peak as trucking market tightens again

Dry van rates approach prior peak levels while refrigerated and flatbed segments show steady year-over-year gains despite volume fluctuations.

Key takeaways

  • Dry van spot rates surge 5-13 cents, nearing record highs.
  • Refrigerated rates remain elevated year over year despite a recent weekly drop in load volumes.
  • Flatbed spot rates rose 7-8 cents, hitting new records.

Spot rates continued to rise across all equipment types ahead of Memorial Day weekend, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics.
