Small transportation businesses are especially hard hit by government regulations, despite federal efforts to reduce cumbersome compliance procedures, according to a conducted by the Small Business Research Board (SBRB).
The survey, which was co-sponsored by International Profit Associates (IPA), found that 92% of small business owners in the transportation industry are spending more time complying with government regs than they did two years ago.
Overall, 88% of small businesses are spending more time completing compliance requirements. Results from other sectors surveyed include construction and contracting (93%), automotive (90%), retail (90%), distribution and wholesale (85%), manufacturing (83%), and food (80%).
The study coincided with the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Small Business Paperwork Relief Act of 2002 (SBPRA), designed to ease the burden of federal paperwork on small businesses.
