The Rhode Island Trucking Assn. celebrated its 80th anniversary with a dinner held on Nov. 15.

“For 80 years, RITA has followed its mission to enhance the motor carrier and transportation industry’s image, efficiency, and productivity through promoting highway safety, providing valuable information and educational programs, as well as providing a legislative voice for its members,” said Christopher Maxwell, president of the organization. “Though the business climate in Rhode Island has gone through many cycles, the one constant has been trucking. RITA has been committed to helping its members navigate the difficult economic times, and supports its members wherever and whenever needed in these ever changing conditions.”

“As we celebrate the 80-year history of the Rhode Island Trucking Assn., it seems fitting that we salute the dedication of members and volunteers who have served to perpetuate this organization through good times and bad,” Maxwell said. “That due to the collective efforts of many, we will continue to meet the challenges that face the industry today as in was the case in 1931 when RITA was founded. This collective effort at all levels will allow the wheels will continue to roll for all those who work in this great industry.”

An 80th Anniversary event was held at the Venus de Milo in Swansea, MA. The evening included an appearance by American Trucking Assns. (ATA) president & CEO, Bill Graves.
