Volvo Trucks will once again recognize two safe fleets with its Volvo Trucks Safety Award. The award, which is sponsored by Michelin and Volvo Trucks, awards $25,000 to each fleet, one in the under 20 million miles category and one in the over 20 million miles category, to be used in their safety-related activities.
“Safety is paramount for both Michelin and Volvo Trucks, so we’re pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication to safety exhibited by the industry’s top performers,” said Ron Huibers, president, Volvo Trucks North American sales & marketing.
The 2011 recipients were Roehl Transport of Marshfield, WI, and Stagecoach Cartage & Distribution of El Paso, TX. The two fleets detail their approaches to safety in this video.
The award is open to all U.S. and Canadian fleets operating at least five Class 8 vehicles – one of which must be a Volvo tractor. Entrants will be ranked by their accident frequency rates and participating fleets will also be judged on their accident prevention activities.
“Volvo’s longstanding core value of safety guides our designs and is woven throughout our products,” Huibers said. “The Volvo cab design, safety cage and other passive safety features protect drivers, while integrated active safety technologies, like Volvo enhanced stability technology and Volvo enhanced cruise, improve safety for all motorists. The Volvo Trucks Safety Award allows us to help fleets strengthen their safety cultures and programs.”
Deadline for entry is July 31, 2012. The winners of the award will be announced during the American Trucking Assns. Management Conference & Exhibition in October.
