TL carrier Schneider National was named to the CivilianJobs.com 2012 most valuable employers list for aiding military-experienced job seekers searching for civilian careers.
“We are honored to have earned this recognition as a top employer for current and former military members,” says Mike Hinz, a Schneider vp and a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve.
“With their diverse skill set and outstanding work ethic, current and former military members have proven time and time again that they make outstanding associates,” he added. “I believe it’s our like-minded principals — safety, integrity, excellence and respect — that make us a natural choice for current and former military personnel.”
The CivilinJobs.com annual military employment contest is was open to all U.S.-based companies and the finalists, announced back in February, are selected on the basis of surveys in which employers outlined their recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve military service members and veterans.
Schneider recently committed to hire 650 military members throughout the country this year and, according to Hinz, the greatest area of opportunity for those is for professional truck drivers.
He added that, due to Schneider’s long-standing commitment to veterans, Guard members and Reservists, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) accepted the $3.4 billion carrier into its exclusive “apprenticeship program” whereby during their first year at the company, drivers with a military background are eligible to earn a monthly educational benefit check from the VA in addition to their paycheck — up to $1,069 each month depending on the number of years of service.
Other military-specific benefits Schneider offers include guaranteed home time for weekend drill and annual training for Guard and Reserve members as well as extended benefits and differential pay during deployment, the carrier noted.
