CalTrans plans full 1-5 closures in Orange County

Sept. 7, 2012

The California Dept. of Transportation (CalTrans) has announced a series of “brief, intermittent” nighttime full freeway closures of I-5 between La Mirada and Santa Fe Springs from Sept. 11-14.

The California Highway Patrol will conduct traffic breaks for each full freeway closure — three or four per night in each direction — that will last approximately 10 to 12 minutes and are scheduled to take place at hourly intervals.

Scheduled closures:

  • Tuesday, Sept, 11 at 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 13 at 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

The traffic breaks will occur on the northbound 1-5 just before Valley View Ave. Motorists have the option to exit at Valley View and re-enter northbound I-5 at the Rosecrans Ave. on-ramp. The northbound I-5 on-ramp at Alondra Blvd. will be closed at all times. The northbound I-5 on-ramp at Valley View Ave. will be closed intermittently to coincide with mainline closures.
The southbound I-5 traffic breaks will occur just before Carmenita Rd. Motorists have the option to exit at Carmenita Rd and re-enter the southbound I-5 on-ramp at the Valley View Ave. The southbound I-5 on-ramp at Carmenita Rd. will be closed at all times.
The closures are weather-permitting and are subject to cancellation. Suggested detours will be posted.
Information about the I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects is available from the toll-free I-5 Hotline 855-454-6335 or www.I-5info.com.
