Traffic information provider Inrix is preparing to release its U.S. Freight Traffic Profiles, a compilation of thousands of miles of roadway and their historical traffic patterns. The new report covers 450,000 centerline miles and 600,000 segments across the nation’s interstates and expressways, state highways, and major arterial roads.

“By creating a nationwide, uniform and timely picture of conditions for the trucking side of freight based on travel speeds, congestion and volumes, Inrix Freight Profiles provides agencies with an important tool for advancing efforts to move freight traffic more efficiently across our nation’s road network,” said Rick Schuman, vice president and general manager of public sector.

Freight Profiles provides average speed and travel time, percentiles, and failure rate statistics, along with the number of GPS data points used to generate each result, updated every month from the largest real-time GPS probe data network of freight vehicles in the country.  Datasets are derived in 15 minute increments for each day of the week – 672 specific profiles for each road segment in each dataset, Inrix said.

It will be available in January 2013. Monthly data sets can be licensed dating back to January 2010. Annual data sets are available from 2010-2012. New data sets will be made available within 30 days of the conclusion of the previous month.
