Menlo Worldwide expands in Singapore

Jan. 14, 2013

Logistics company Menlo Worldwide officially opened a new warehousing and retail distribution management center in Singapore last week. The company, a global subsidiary of Con-way Inc., provides logistics, transportation management and supply chain services on five continents.

Established in Singapore more than a decade ago, the company’s services range from dedicated contract logistics to warehousing, distribution and transportation management; supply chain engineering and other value-added services across multiple industries.

The new 37,000-square-meter Sunview center increases the company’s footprint in Singapore to seven facilities totaling 195,000 square meters. Representing an investment of S$50 million by Menlo and its development partner, Second Development Pte Ltd, the new distribution center features advanced building design and construction materials emphasizing environmental sustainability and high levels of energy and water-use efficiency — from the use of recycled concrete aggregates, to sustainably sourced office carpet and ceiling board, to high-efficiency air-conditioning and Philips T5 florescent lighting, the company said.

“The opening of the Sunview Way facility is a milestone for Menlo,” said Robert L. Bianco Jr., president of San Francisco, CA-based Menlo Worldwide Logistics. “It’s yet another demonstration of Menlo’s commitment to the Singapore market and our continued investment for growth in the region. This facility is recognized as a model for sustainable building and business practices and will enable us to provide superior warehousing and logistics services for our customers.”

“Menlo’s innovation in sustainable supply chain solutions is a further testimony of Singapore’s leadership in world-class supply chain management. Such development in sustainable and high productivity operations is a move in the right direction to transform the logistics industry to support a more competitive and productivity-led economy,” said Kelvin Wong, executive director of logistics, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).

Menlo’s existing network of facilities is located throughout Singapore with 380 employees, serving more than 100 Singapore businesses and multi-national companies in sectors such as automotive, high-tech, consumer goods, industrial, aerospace and wine and spirits distribution.

The new facility will employ more than 100.
