TCA webinar to explore lease-purchase plans

March 18, 2013

Trucking executives can learn strategies for ensuring a more reliable and stable pool of owner-operators for their fleet in a webinar sponsored by the Truckload Carriers Assn. scheduled for March 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. EST. “Lease-Purchase Plans: What You Need to Know for 2013 and Beyond,” will offer insights from industry experts who will discuss the many benefits of recruiting and retaining owner-operators and what to look for when hiring them.

According to TCA, misclassification of employees and recruiting and retaining owner-operators are critical issues for the trucking industry. This webinar, free to TCA members, will also shed light on what carriers need to know as they look to find the right mix of company drivers and independent contractors.

Webinar panelists will also discuss the pros and cons of company-sponsored lease-purchase plans, what to look for in third-party sponsors, and strategies that large and small carriers can use to ensure a more reliable and stable pool of owner-operators.

Other topics will include:

  • Misclassification of employee trends and what carriers need to know.
  • What makes a successful lease-purchase plan from startup to implementation.
  • Transitioning from company-sponsored lease-purchase plans to third-party plans.
  • The profitability of owner-operators vs. company drivers.
  • What makes a successful owner operator and what to look for when hiring.

Moderator for the panel is R. Eddie Wayland, Esq., partner, King and Ballow. Panelists are Gregory Feary, managing partner, Scopelitis Garvin Light Hanson & Feary and David Strand, president, Wholesale Truck & Finance.

The interactive program will provide opportunities for participants to ask questions.
