The Arizona Dept. of Transportation has announced that the Sunset Point rest area along Interstate 17 at milepost 252 between Phoenix and Flagstaff will be closed the week of April 15 for repairs to the parking lot.
The rest area will close April 15 at 6 p.m. and remain closed through April 19 at 5 a.m. for repairs. Crews will work to seal cracks in the pavement and restripe the parking lot.
While the Sunset Point rest area is temporarily closed, drivers can use the McGuireville rest area along I-17 at milepost 297 near the State Route 179 turnoff.
The work is part of a $2.5 million project that included a new well and water system, and improvements to existing ramadas at the rest area.
The work at the Sunset Point rest area is part of a statewide rest area rehabilitation program that will occur over the next several years. ADOT is investing $17.4 million to repair and refurbish the infrastructure, including waste and water systems, of 16 rest areas across the state.
