Convoy of Hope responds after Hurricane Isaias
Isaias strengthened into the first hurricane of 2026 in the Atlantic. Disaster recovery organization Convoy of Hope is prepared to respond immediately after landfall.
Alabama and Florida both declared a state of emergency spanning 65 counties and urged residents to take immediate precautions.
Convoy of Hope has mobilized and deployed its disaster response teams by staging trucks, heavy equipment, and essential relief supplies at its regional distribution center in Atlanta.
"There's a lot of activity now, getting trucks ready, filling them with the supplies that we'll be taking," Ethan Forhetz, VP of Convoy of Hope, said. "As the hurricane moves up and through the region, Convoy of Hope teams will come in directly behind it and begin delivering aid to people in need."
Convoy of Hope trucks are loaded with essential relief items, such as cleaning supplies, fresh drinking water, hygiene kits, baby items, imperishable food, and other resources to help communities in the aftermath of recovery.
During major hurricane deployments, Convoy of Hope dispatches fleets of up to 22 specialized vehicles, including mobile kitchens, shower trailers, and bunk housing units. By operating self-sufficient mobile base camps, relief teams can provide essential services without consuming scarce local resources such as power, water, or shelter space in the affected communities.

High school students explore trucking and foodservice distribution careers at IFDA Student Day
For 50 high school students, the 2026 International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) Solutions Conference was more than a field trip. It gave them a chance to discover new career pathways, build confidence, and connect with the people who keep America’s foodservice distribution industry moving.
For the second consecutive year, Next Gen Trucking partnered with IFDA to host Student Day, an initiative designed to introduce high school students to careers in trucking, transportation, and foodservice distribution.
Following the inaugural event in Columbus, Ohio, which welcomed two groups of supply chain students, this year’s program expanded to three high school groups. Interest exceeded the event’s 50-student capacity, with additional schools eager to participate.
Students representing commercial driver’s license (CDL), automotive technology, agricultural mechanics, and welding programs spent the day exploring the industry through leadership development, conversations with business executives, and hands-on experiences on the IFDA Solutions Conference exhibit floor.
“At the IFDA Student Day, students gained a competitive edge in career readiness by engaging in a roundtable Q&A with foodservice distribution business leaders to discover exactly what top employers look for, from a strong work ethic and positive attitude to exceptional time management,” Melissa Rountree, CCMR advisor at Byron P. Steele High School, said.
Trucking HR Canada and Samsara Top Fleet Employers Scholarship awards $10,000 to students
Trucking HR Canada (THRC) and Samsara recently awarded a combined $10,000 to three post-secondary students through the inaugural Top Fleet Employers Scholarship. The recipients were announced during THRC’s Top Fleet Employers Awards Gala in Toronto.
The scholarship recognizes students whose parent(s) work for a current Top Fleet Employer, a designation for fleets whose HR policies and practices meet the highest standards. The scholarship celebrates the important contributions Canada’s transportation and logistics employees make to their families, communities, and supply chain.
Here are the 2026 scholarship recipients:
- Jillian Rust, St. Thomas University: $5,000
- Jillian’s father works for RST Sunbury Transport.
- Heysha Makwana, McMaster University: $3,000
- Heysha’s mother works for Armour Transportation Systems.
- Nikolay Sazanovich, University of Alberta: $2,000
- Nikolay’s father works for Big Freight Systems.
Applicants submitted a video describing their parents’ work and its impact on their lives. An independent selection committee of industry leaders reviewed the applications and evaluated them based on how clearly students conveyed that personal connection, their understanding of Canada’s supply chain, and the essential role transportation and logistics play within it.
“It was inspiring to hear students describe the pride they have in their parents and the important work they do,” Angela Splinter, president and CEO of Trucking HR Canada, said. “Their stories are a powerful reminder of how trucking and logistics touch Canadian families and communities, and of the people who keep our supply chain moving.”
THRC and Samsara revealed that a new round of applications will open later this year for 2027 scholarships.
Hyundai and Strava's Miles for the Warriors Challenge sets all-time distance record
Hyundai Motor America and Strava revealed that the Miles for the Warriors Challenge set an all-time distance record for a Strava challenge, with more than 150,000 participants logging 19,959,136 miles in September. Launched September 2 for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the challenge was part of The Mark of a Warrior, Hyundai Motor America's national campaign supporting Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a nonprofit dedicated to helping end childhood cancer. Participants were invited to run, walk, wheel, bike, hike, or swim in support of the 400,000 children diagnosed with cancer globally each year.
The challenge began with a 400,000-mile goal and a $1 million donation commitment from Hyundai to Hyundai Hope on Wheels. Participants reached the goal in the first 24 hours, prompting Hyundai to double the mileage goal to 800,000 miles and its donation commitment to $2 million. The community surpassed the new goal two days later. In recognition of the challenge's record-setting achievement, Hyundai is contributing an additional $1 million, bringing its total donation through the challenge to $3 million.
Together, participants in the Miles for the Warriors Challenge:
- Logged 19,959,136 miles and 16,683,314,348 steps
- Completed 2,690,842 activities and spent 2,192,114 hours moving
- Reached a median distance of 74.65 miles per athlete
- Activities were 48.41% running, 30.05% walking, 19.20% biking, and 2.34% swimming
"Nearly 20 million miles is an extraordinary show of support for children and families facing childhood cancer," Sean Gilpin, chief marketing officer for Hyundai Motor America, said. "The Miles for the Warriors Challenge brought people together around the strength of young warriors and a cause that affects children around the world. We're grateful to everyone who participated and proud to contribute $3 million through the challenge to support Hyundai Hope on Wheels and its work to advance pediatric cancer research."
