    Jacksonville FL-based Winn-Dixie Stores Inc announced sales and results of operations for its third quarter of fiscal 2003.

    Sales from continuing operations for the 12 weeks ended April 2, 2003, were $2.8 billion, a decrease of $79.3 million, or 2.7%, compared with the same quarter a year ago. For the 40 weeks ended April 2, 2003, sales from continuing operations were $9.4 billion, a decrease of $36.1 million, or 0.4%, compared with a year earlier.

    Net earnings from continuing operations for the 12 weeks ended April 2, 2003, were $50.6 million, versus $51.4 million for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    For the current year, net earnings from continuing operations were $176.7 million, compared with $134.4 million in the previous fiscal year.
