Delhaize Group, the Belgian international food retailer, has completed its acquisition of 43 Harveys supermarkets in central and south Georgia and the Tallahassee FL area. The acquisition fills in an area where Food Lion, the largest United States banner of Delhaize Group, has a limited presence.

Harveys is now the fourth US banner of Delhaize Group, joining Food Lion, Hannaford, and Kash n' Karry.

Delhaize Group has operations in 11 nations on three continents. At the end of the first half of 2003, its sales network consisted of 2,505 stores; the group employs about 144,000 people.
