Henningsen Cold Storage Company, one of the largest temperature-controlled warehousing and transportation companies in the United States, recently received Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Level 2 certification for its Portland OR facility (P1).
SQF, administered by the Food Marketing Institute and recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), is a food safety management system that allows food safety and quality systems to be verified and validated throughout the food supply chain. It is recognized by retailers, foodservice providers, and regulatory agencies worldwide and is the only GFSI standard that offers a separate approach incorporating a quality certification component.
This certification reinforces Henningsen’s commitment to food safety practices, and emphasizes its eminence in the industry. Colin Longmuir, general manager of the Portland facility, said, “Attaining the SQF level 2 certification is an exciting achievement for our Portland team. There was a lot of hard work from the whole group that went into this accomplishment. We are proud to be recognized for the steps we take to ensure our customer’s products are handled with care and stored in clean, food safe environments.”
Based in Hillsboro OR, Henningsen is the 11th-largest cold storage company in North America. It operates 10 facilities in six states, providing more than 53 million cubic feet of temperature-controlled storage. The firm’s 11th facility is being constructed in Salem OR and is due to open in June 2017.
