Collaborating eSMARTT researchers Paul Menig, CEO of Business Accelerants, and Charlie Willmott, CEO of WillGo Transportation Consulting, will dig into the results of their recent survey of smart trailer technologies used by temperature-controlled fleets during the upcoming Truckload Carriers Association’s Refrigerated Meeting.
The “Incorporating Telematics into Your Refrigerated Fleet to Manage Food Safety and Maintenance” workshop panel also will feature Ken Johnson, president of Leonard’s Express, and Ron Hall, vice president of C.R. England, who will share their perspectives on current and future uses of smart trailer technologies.
The panel is set for 8 a.m. EDT on Thursday, July 28. TCA’s Refrigerated Meeting runs July 27-29 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Mich.

The eSMARTT—which stands for enhanced safety, maintainability and readiness through technology—survey and report, commissioned by American Trucking Associations’ Technology and Maintenance Council, gathered extensive data earlier this year from a wide cross-section of carriers in the temperature-controlled market. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the opportunities and challenges of implementing new smart trailer technologies, and to better understand carriers’ future vision for a fully integrated smart trailer.
The resulting 160-page report published in April contains valuable benchmarking insight for carriers and technology product providers. It also looks at how current and future smart trailer technologies fit into the larger global cold chain with regard to food safety, security, and regulatory compliance.
