Thermo King is celebrating the milestone production of its 100,000th TriPac auxiliary power unit (APU) at its Hastings NE manufacturing plant.

Thermo King, a manufacturer of transport temperature control systems for mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is celebrating the milestone production of its 100,000th TriPac auxiliary power unit (APU) at its Hastings NE manufacturing plant.

The TriPac APU provides heating and cooling without idling the tractor engine. This unit increases sustainability and keeps drivers comfortable and productive while delivering fuel savings. This system, which Thermo King first introduced in 2005, also helps ensure anti-idling compliance. Because the tractor engine isn’t running, users can greatly increase maintenance intervals, saving time and money.

The TriPac unit supplies heating, air-conditioning, and hotel power to optimize driver comfort and allow drivers to rest. It also charges and maintains tractor batteries. The TriPac provides engine coolant warming to the main tractor engine to ease engine start in cold ambient conditions. Depending on customer application, the TriPac APU has a typical payback range of 13 to 24 months.

In August 2012, Thermo King announced the launch of the TriPac Evolution APU, which meets Tier IV Environmental Protection Agency final regulations requirements while leveraging new patented technology to drive unit performance, efficiency, and user productivity. This system, which can be ordered after April 1, 2013, for shipment in second quarter 2013, will lower overall truck fuel consumption, reduce emissions, and provide driver comfort.

The updated TriPac features software that can be customized to enhance the user’s operating profile. This APU will also offer an extended maintenance interval of at least 1,500 hours, a new flash-loadable control system, and improved service access for easier maintenance.

Thermo King offers a network of more than 200 dealers nationwide to support all TriPac APUs.
