Great Dane collects two TTMA safety awards

June 2, 2023
Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association recognizes trailer manufacturer’s Statesboro and Elysburg plants for safe operations in 2022.

Great Dane’s manufacturing facilities in Statesboro, Georgia, and Elysburg, Pennsylvania, recently claimed 2022 Plant Safety Awards from the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association (TTMA).

This is the fifth consecutive year a Great Dane plant has won a TTMA safety award.

“Safety is one of our core pillars and a top priority at Great Dane because we care about each other like family and want each person to go home uninjured,” Rick Mullininx, Great Dane president and COO, said in a news release.

“I’m proud of the Statesboro and Elysburg teams for winning the TTMA plant safety award in their categories because it reflects their commitment to safety—and to each other.”

Great Dane Statesboro is the winning trailer manufacturing plant for the second year in Category A for operations with over 750,000 man-hours. Great Dane Elysburg posted its second straight win in Category B, covering operations with 350,000 to 750,000 man-hours.

Great Dane Statesboro employs nearly 500 people and went 350 days without a recordable injury in 2022, the manufacturer said. Great Dane Elysburg employs more than 400 people and went 130 days without a recordable injury last year.

The Statesboro location manufactures Great Dane’s Everest refrigerated trailers, and the Elysburg location manufactures the Champion dry freight van series.

Great Dane has received 47 awards since the TTMA competition began in 1971.

“I believe we can attribute our strong safety record to a culture of safe thinking, which is woven into the very fabric of Great Dane,” said David Ritchie, Great Dane’s senior director of environment, health, and safety. “We’ve implemented Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) programs and created Great Dane’s company-wide safety initiative ‘Think Safety First,’ which not only teaches safe working behaviors but also about the negative outcomes one injury can have on the team member and their loved ones.”
