When Mexican trucks cross the border into the U.S., they will be operating with Fleet Director GPS fleet tracking and hours-of-service software from Teletrac.

Telectrac has been chosen by the Dept. Of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to provide Fleet Director to vehicles participating in the U.S.-Mexico cross-border pilot program.

Under the agreement reached in July, Mexican trucks participating in the program must have onboard recorders installed to monitor driver’s hours of service. Fleet Director is compliant with current FMCSA regulations for vehicle and driver monitoring.

“Teletrac has a proven track record of delivering advanced telematics solutions that give carriers powerful control over fleet operations to improve safety, control costs, mitigate risks and ensure compliance,” said Drew Hamilton, executive vice president, Teletrac. “We are extremely pleased that officials of FMCSA have chosen to partner with us and are confident that our solution set, expert resources that can deliver training in Spanish, plus headquarters in California and large operations in Texas, will play a vital role in supporting FMCSA.”

Fleet Director integrates GPS location tracking and an electronic on-board recorder plus other advanced features to capture, correlate, and archive all HOS data, from “total time driving since last qualified rest” to all underlying information such as driver, vehicle, trailer, shipper, driver status, date, time—all saved as a permanent electronic log, Teletrac said.

The device also includes geo-fencing technology that provides vehicle location data relative to geographic landmarks.
