DeMoulas Supermarkets, which operates the Market Basket chain , has implemented Cadec Global’s Mobius fleet management solution in its private fleet.
DeMoulas has 55 delivery trucks in its operation, servicing more than 60 stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The solution will be installed on all company vehicles to monitor location and driver behavior.
Among the metrics that warehouse manager Dean Joyce will be monitoring with the system are idling, on-time deliveries, drop-and-hook time, speeding and sudden deceleration. Joyce said that weekly performance reports will be posted in the driver’s break room.
“We have a terrific group of drivers here, but tracking and posting the reports has definitely made an impact on driving behavior,” said Joyce. “It’s created some friendly competition among the drivers and helped reduce some tendencies toward things like excessive idling.”
The system has also brought automation to driver logs and fuel-tax reporting.
“In the past, drivers had to manually log their exact mileage in each state for fuel-tax reporting,” said Joyce. “It was very tedious both for drivers and for our office staff. Now that process is completely automated – we couldn’t be happier.”
