    Bekins Van Lines has fitted 100 trailers in its HHG fleet with the GE VeriWise untethered trailer tracking system and says it will add the system to another 400 trailers before the end of the year. The fleet is using the tracking system's XML data feed to integrate real-time location information with its proprietary route planning system. Eventually, it will also allow customers to rack their own loads over its Web site.

    Refrigerated LTL carrier Kool Pac LLC of Portland, OR, has installed Maddocks Systems' TruckMate for Windows fleet management software. The fleet intends to use the system for managing crossdock operations as well as integrating EDI and establishing online services. Kool Pack provides daily scheduled LTL service in Oregon, Washington and California, as well as weekly service throughout the U.S. and Canada.

    The Bridgestone/Firestone private fleet operation has become the 1,000th customer for PeopleNet's wireless communications services, according to the company.

    Tankstar USA, a holding company with five dry and liquid bulk hauling subsidiaries with 900 trucks, has installed the Pegasus TransTech Transflo document management system.

    Elite Carriers, a just-in-time carrier with major customers in the paper goods industry, is equipping 100 tractors with the MobileMax multi-mode wireless communications system, according to Aether Systems Inc. The system which switches between land- and satellite-based communications depending on availability.

    Bradco Supply, a manufacturer and national distributor of roofing materials, has moved its entire delivery fleet to Gearwork's eTrace wireless fleet management system. The system runs on the Nextel communications network and GPS-enabled cell phones. Bradco is now running eTrace with 470 drivers at 80 locations in 26 states.

    Prophesy Shipper Series, a transportation management system, has been upgraded to build routes more quickly, according to the developer. The package now considers geography, state tariff differences, cost-per-mile and other factors to optimize loads. www.prophesylogistics.com
