Small but rugged enough to withstand a variety of work environments, the MC70 mobile computer is the second entry in what Symbol Technologies calls enterprise digital assistants (EDAs).

Joining Symbol's MC50, the new device adds multi-mode wireless communications, including cellular GSM voice and next-generation EDGE GPRS data, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth.

Able to withstand 4-ft. drops to concrete and exposure to water and dust, the MC70 provides laser data capture and 2D imaging capabilities as well as wireless communications in a 6-in. by 3-in. by 1.5-in. package that weighs less than 12 oz. Both QWERTY and numeric keyboards are available, and battery management should provide full-shift life between recharges.

Symbol has also released preliminary details on two additions to its MC9000 line for full-size handheld mobile computers.

The MC9090-G/K/S brings tri-mode wireless connectivity to the series, offering data and voice communications over wide-area and local wireless networks. The MC9097 adds support for the IDEN Nextel wireless network with “walkie-talkie” voice communications.
