Con-way Truckload is upgrading its in-cab navigation system to Maptuit’s NaviGo technology. The upgrade occurred in all company trucks as well as Qualcomm-equipped owner-operator tractors.
The upgrades will take six to eight months to complete, the company said.
“This is a significant upgrade of our navigation and communication capabilities that will raise the overall quality and efficiency of our operations," said Saul Gonzalez, COO, Con-way Truckload. “By installing NaviGo in our trucks, we hope to improve safety performance, making life a little easier for our drivers and, in return, for our customers.”
The NaviGo system offers advanced GPS fleet tracking that includes the ability to route drivers around hazardous situations, truck-restricted routes, low bridges, and other areas such as dangerous intersections or where U-turns would be needed.
The system also provides 2D, 3D and driver safety map guidance; load-specific routing with 30 Hazmat road classes and categories; hands-free directions; and intuitive, large, touchscreen interface with dynamic, near real-time moving maps and easy to view buttons.
Turn-by-turn spoken directions, millions of points of interests, and real-time monitoring, alerting, and re-routing capabilities are also included.
Managers will be able to review detailed route plans based on vehicle size and load type, tolls, and fuel costs, and monitor route compliance and performance trend reporting for on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
