FMCSA removes Hero ELD from registered devices list, triggering 60-day replacement window
Key takeaways
- FMCSA removed Hero ELD for failing to meet federal requirements under 49 CFR Part 395 Appendix A, effective April 2.
- Motor carriers have 60 days to replace the revoked ELD or risk being deemed noncompliant during roadside inspections.
- Using the revoked Hero ELD after June 2 will result in out-of-service orders, making immediate compliance action critical.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently removed one ELD from the list of registered electronic logging devices (ELD): Hero ELD
FMCSA placed this ELD on the revoked devices list because the company failed to meet the minimum requirements established in Title 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395. The removal took place April 2.
Motor carriers have up to 60 days to replace the revoked ELD with a compliant ELD. If the ELD provider corrects all identified device deficiencies, FMCSA will place the ELD back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry of the update.
Beginning June 2, motor carriers that continue using the revoked device listed above will be considered operating without an ELD. Safety officials who encounter a driver using a revoked device on or after June 2 will place the driver out of service.
FMCSA encourages motor carriers to take the above actions to avoid compliance issues if the ELD provider does not address the deficiency.
