The diesel engine still reigns supreme in commercial vehicle operations, but that doesn’t mean electric vehicles haven’t found their place in the industry. Companies that employ EVs in their fleet have learned how to adjust their operations to accommodate hauling needs and charging intervals. It just takes planning.
The adoption of EVs has spurred the development of charging infrastructure, and even though fueling stations heavily outnumber charging stations, a driver who carefully plans their trip should have no problem finding adequate charging.
Drivers of light- and medium-duty electric commercial vehicles have greater charging flexibility than heavy-duty electric vehicles, as they can often charge at public stations designed for consumers. This summer is the time to take advantage.
General Motors compiled some of the “coolest” EV charging destinations for electric vehicle drivers all across the U.S. If you’re out and about on the job in a medium- or light-duty EV in any of the areas listed below, consider stopping in one of these “cool” places rather than your usual spot to juice up.

Washington, D.C.
Our nation’s capital isn’t the only cool home in D.C.; it’s also home to an Electrify America charging station in Georgetown, just walking distance from cobblestone streets and architectural styles that appear straight out of a history book. Drivers who opt to stop here to charge can also enjoy a walk along the Potomac River while they wait for their vehicle to charge.

North Carolina
In Apex, North Carolina, just west of Raleigh, is IONNA Rechargery. More than just a few charging hookups in a public parking lot, IONNA is designed for the electric motoring public. It features multiple covered chargers and an indoor lounge with refreshments. You might get lucky enough to purchase from a food truck while you’re there.
Aside from the station, IONNA is a few blocks from downtown, a dog park, and a state park.

EVgo has placed several fast chargers in Portland, Maine, just three blocks from the water and surrounded by historic buildings. Drivers who stop here are steps away from a museum, theatre, historical markers, and the art district. A three-block walk toward the water will take you to a local coffee shop and diner. The Chargepoint station in Austin, Texas, is easy to find. Just navigate to Electric Drive. California
If an upscale charging center (yes, I said charging center) is what you’re looking for, the Rove in Santa Ana, California, is just that. It features multiple charging ports covered by a solar panel awning. Inside, drivers have access to a lounge, restrooms, a water-bottle refilling station, vending machines, free Wi-Fi, a car wash, and a “market” with typical filling-station snack and beverage options. Outside is a car wash with complimentary vacuum and windshield wiper cleaner. Rove also has options for fleet charging and a savings membership that offers lower prices per kWh.

Utah
Moab, Utah, is known for its red rocks and the Jeeps that climb them. But you don't have to hit the trails to take in the beauty of the area. Electrify America has placed several electric vehicle charging stations along popular routes that commercial vehicles can traverse. Chargers can be found along mountain routes linking to trailheads, boat launches, and camping. But just driving through with a few minutes to spare will give you plenty of beauty to look at.
