Meritor has released two new trailing arm air ride trailer suspension systems for vocational markets, including platform, tanker, bottom dump, grain, logging, transfer, side-dump and end-dump trailers.

The Meritor Trailing-Arm Air 25 (MTA25) and MTA30 join the MTA23 and are available with an optional lift kit. The MTA25 offers a 25,000-lb. capacity and the MTA30 a 30,000-lb. capacity.

The lift kit is a quick-response system in either painted or galvanized finishes. It attaches as either original equipment or retrofit.

“Our customers are delighted with the first model, the MTA23, and have been asking for the next family members to have a viable and reliable choice for all of their new vocational trailer specifications,” said Craig Frohock, general manager, Trailer Products, Meritor.

The MTA models are top-mount air-ride suspension systems. Meritor said it will introduce low-mount models next summer.

Benefits of the new models include their light weight, a patent-pending axle wrap design for a secure and durable axle connection; larger, more robust shock absorbers with a larger bore design to improve suspension control and consistent tire contact with the ground; and patented pivot bushing that absorbs road inputs for a smoother ride. Patented steel interleaf shims in the bushing provide superior fore-aft stiffness aiding in improved axle alignment, better tire wear and reduced roll steer.

The MTA trailer suspension system is integrated with Meritor trailer axles and Q Plus Cam Brakes. All are covered by the company’s five-year, 500,000-mi. warranty on structural components. Optional components include air disc brakes, automatic slack adjusters, the SteelLite X30 drum and lightweight hub and the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by P.S.I.
