Kentucky Trailer to offer factory-fitted TrailerTail

March 30, 2014

Drop frame trailer maker Kentucky Trailer and trailer aerodynamic device maker ATDynamics recently formed a partnership whereby Kentucky Trailers will offer a factory-installed TrailerTail device as a standard order option for new trailer orders.

Kyle Houston, VP-North American sales for ATDynamics, told Fleet Owner at a press conference during the 2104 Mid America Trucking Show that the company conducted on-road testing of 20 TrailerTails configured specifically for DropFrame trailers between 2011 and 2013 and determined that up to 11 gallons of diesel can be saved for every 1,000 miles driven at highway speed.

He added that TrailerTails configured for DropFrame trailers are two-feet higher than those crafted for standard dry vans and that greater surface area allows them to deliver more fuel savings.

Houston noted that the first 89 TrailerTail DropFrame units installed at the Kentucky Trailer factory are due to come off the production line sometime in April this year.
