Newly Equipped: Volvo, Aperia, and Bendix expand fleet equipment for safety and uptime
Key takeaways
- TEL’s large order for Volvo VNL sleepers signals fleets are doubling down on fuel efficiency, uptime, and driver retention in spec decisions.
- By extending inflation to steer tires, Aperia enables earlier issue detection and tighter control over tire-related downtime risks.
- Bendix’s sealed spring brake design helps fleets reduce corrosion-related failures and extend maintenance intervals across brake systems.
TEL places large order for 400 Volvo VNL 860 sleepers for U.S. fleet leasing operations
Volvo Trucks North America has received an order for 400 all-new Volvo VNL 860 sleeper trucks from TEL, one of the largest fleet leasing providers in the U.S. The purchase marks one of the largest VNL orders and reflects fleet priorities around fuel economy, safety, driver comfort, and uptime.
“This significant order for the all-new Volvo VNL reflects the confidence fleets have in our flagship platform,” Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, stated. “One year into production, the real-world performance of the new VNL is delivering measurable results in fuel efficiency, safety, and driver comfort. With 400 Volvo VNL 860 sleepers entering service through TEL’s leasing program, we are putting premium long-haul experiences into the hands of drivers across North America.”
The all-new Volvo VNL delivers up to a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency through aerodynamic and powertrain updates. Roughly 15,000 VNL trucks are currently in service across the U.S. and Canada. Read more…
Aperia expands automatic tire inflation system to steer tires for full-vehicle coverage
Aperia Technologies recently introduced the Halo automatic tire inflation system for steer tires, extending its technology to all wheel positions on commercial trucks and trailers. The system is self-powered and designed to continuously maintain optimal tire pressure while integrating with the Halo Connect platform for tire health monitoring and data collection.
“Steer tire failures present a significantly higher safety risk than other tire failures because they directly affect the vehicle’s directional control, increasing the likelihood of severe accidents,” Ralph Dimenna, CCO at Aperia Technologies, stated. “We are thrilled to introduce this safety technology, combined with our leading leak detection, to steer tires, which will measurably improve the performance for commercial trucks.”
The expanded system enables fleets to apply continuous inflation, leak detection, and predictive analytics across steer, drive, and trailer tires, helping identify issues early and reduce roadside events and downtime. By combining inflation with connected insights and tools such as the Halo Tread Diagnostic Suite, the solution provides unified tire management intended to improve safety, uptime, and overall tire performance across commercial fleets. Bendix EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake now available on Peterbilt trucks
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems’ EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake for air disc brakes is now available as a factory-installed option on Peterbilt medium- and heavy-duty trucks. The sealed design protects against moisture and contaminants, helping extend power spring life, reduce corrosion, improve uptime, and lower replacement frequency for fleets.
“We’re proud to have Peterbilt equip the Bendix EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake for air disc brakes on their trucks, helping to bring additional value, safety, and lower total cost of ownership for fleets and drivers in North America,” Nicole Oreskovic, Bendix VP of sales and marketing, stated. “Our long, valued partnership with Peterbilt extends to the earliest days of North American air disc brake adoption—this latest addition to the lineup of Bendix products available on Peterbilt vehicles is yet another milestone.”
The EnduraSure-Pro spring brake is engineered with a sealed dust plug and one-way valve to prevent contamination, with testing showing up to five times longer power spring life versus standard vented designs. It also supports safety by reducing risks tied to spring failure and potential rollaways while complementing air disc brake systems and related safety technologies across fleet operations.
