• Ram recalls 1.2 million pickups due to tailgate issue

A misalignment at the tailgate may cause the latch to fail and result in loss of cargo and increase risk of crash.

Stellantis is recalling certain 2019 to 2022 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the tailgate may not latch properly due to misaligned tailgate strikers, which could result in the tailgate opening while driving. An unintended tailgate opening while driving may result in a loss of unsecured cargo, possibly creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

To remedy the situation, dealers will inspect the tailgate striker alignment to the box latch and adjust, if necessary, at no charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out Jan. 27, 2023. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service by calling 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is ZB8.

To check to see if your vehicle has an open recall, visit NHTSA's website and enter the vehicle's 17-digit vehicle identification number.

A previous recall of 248,000 Ram heavy-duty pickups involved a transmission problem that could lead to fire.
