Vehicle Inspection Systems, Inc. (VIS) just introduced a new nitrogen tire inflation system called VIS-Nitro to help fleet operators reduce maintenance costs and improve tire life. According to the company, studies have shown that tires filled with nitrogen retain pressure better than those filled with air.

Nitrogen, with its larger molecules, permeates through rubber more slowly and is far less corrosive than compressed air, VIS noted, allowing tires to maintain their pressure longer, thereby reducing the risk of blowouts by overheating and lengthening tread life and retreadability by preventing rubber oxidation.

The company announced it will demonstrate the VIS-Nitro’s inflation capabilities by performing an air purge and nitrogen inflation on four truck tires simultaneously at the American Truck Dealer Conference and Exhibition, April 22-24, in Atlanta, GA.
