TAMPA, FL. Trailer tracking provider SkyBitz and national truck stop chain TravelCenters of America (TA) have formed a partnership that allows TA to sell and replace SkyBitz batteries at its locations. This new partnership will allow SkyBitz’s 170 customers to conveniently change their Mobile Terminal (MT) batteries on the road at one of TA’s 161 truck stops.

SkyBitz’s Global Locating System (GLS) platform allows fleets to track both powered and un-powered assets in a compact all-in-one design. The company’s InSight web application then reports detailed street-level mapping to improve location accuracy.

“Even though our batteries only need to be changed once every few years, we learned that our customers wanted a convenient, on-the-road solution,” said Roni Taylor, company’s executive vp here at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s annual meeting.

She told FleetOwner that SkyBitz’s internal battery could power its trailer tracking system for up to four years, depending on the amount of data transmission. TA is also going to offer the installation of a seven-year life external battery pack for SkyBitz customers that want to increase transmission frequency.

“It gives our customer another option to choose from,” Taylor said. “But in either case, both battery packs – internal and external – are easy and fast to install.”

“We look forward to a profitable partnership with SkyBitz,” added Randy Graham, vp-shop services for TA. “We’re known as ‘the complete stop’ for trucking companies and independent drivers, so by offering this convenient service, it is another way we maintain that important status.”
