LTL conglomerate USFreightways said it plans to seek the approval of its shareholders to change its name to USF Corp.

Senior vp-strategic marketing Doug Waggoner said changing USFreightways' moniker will help grow its logistics and truckload businesses, along with its tracking, tracing and online.

"By removing the 'freightways' from our name, we are acknowledging that we have evolved into a company that is moving forward into the future," Waggoner said. "There are no USFreightways trucks, but there are plenty of assets bearing the USF mark."

He stressed, however, that USF's operating subsidiaries would retain their current names, along with the company's orange, white and blue paint scheme found on its equipment.
