AT&T adds TeleNav Lite services

Per a joint news release issued this morning, AT&T and TeleNav, Inc. announced that AT&T will now offer TeleNav Lite in addition to TeleNav Vehicle Tracker, which is already available, through AT&T’s wireless network services. The new tracking system is designed to provide real-time visibility of field employee locations without requiring special software or GPS. The new Lite service will work on virtually all AT&T mobile devices, laptop cards and wireless equipped notebooks.

“What is different about this solution is that it does not require a data plan or any special software on the mobile device,” said Keith Halasy, sr. marketing manager, business to business products for TeleNav. “It uses cell site readings instead of GPS to determine location and it can operate on a very broad range of devices. With this product, we are really going in a less specialized direction because this is so affordable and so easy to deploy.”

According to Halasy, companies that could benefit from adding location information as a data point to help them better manage their operations, but are just not ready for GPS are a target market for the new Lite solution. “Some companies may already have an automated dispatch system, for instance, but are not ready to incorporate GPS,” he noted. “This can just be snapped on top of existing systems; it operates independently.”

TeleNav Lite provides location information to customers on a live map online. It allows users to set customized tracking needs, including the ability to establish geofences and track speeding or long stops. Alerts can also be established to tell users when a worker or vehicle is operating outside set parameters. “TeleNav Lite allows customers to set geofences for things like customer locations or terminals,” noted Halasy. “Knowing where your workers are enables companies to be more efficient, provide better service and reduce costs. Having location information can be so powerful for a business. It provides a level of control that is indispensible once you have it.”
