Giant Food Inc is offering its customers the opportunity to support American troops and local military families by contributing money to the metropolitan Washington United Service Organizations (USO). Customers can donate to the USO through the purchase of $1, $3, and $5 donation vouchers at the checkout registers at each Giant and Super G store.

“Fully 100% of all funds collected will go to the USO to support local military families,” said Barry Scher, vice-president of public affairs for Giant Food.

Giant Food, headquartered in Landover MD, operates 190 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia, and employs more than 26,000 associates. Giant stores in New Jersey and Delaware operate under the Super G name.

The USO is a non-profit charitable organization, chartered by Congress in 1941 to combine the efforts of six organizations: the Young Men's Christian Association, Young Women's Christian Association, National Catholic Community Service, national Jewish Welfare Board, Traveler's Aid Association, and the Salvation Army.
