C R England has added TempStack 53-foot temperature-controlled, container-on-flatcar (COFC) technology to its service offerings. The first shipment using this technology is scheduled for October 15 from Chicago to Los Angeles.

“This is a significant addition to our customer offerings,” said Zach England, vice-president of intermodal for C R England. “Moving containers via rail is more cost-effective for our customers, increases their shipping capacity, expedites delivery, and reduces their carbon footprint. In an environment when truckload capacity is diminished, rail container transport can significantly impact that capacity crunch.”

TempStack is a temperature-controlled intermodal network offering cost savings, expanded network coverage capacity, and a reduced carbon footprint. C R England’s COFC technology will enable double-stacking refrigerated containers on railroad flatcars, creating larger movement of freight through greener and more cost-effective transportation. The fleet will include 300 containers by the end of first quarter 2011.

C R England’s intermodal division partners with America’s leading railroads to open up select expedited routes of the nation’s most important shipping lanes.

The TempStack service employs new technologies to enhance product transportation and quality control. C R England is using customized software to optimize load configuration, creating easy and fast options to efficiently load freight onto containers. TempStack also provides quality assurance through two-way communication that allows for temperature and load tracking management from remote locations.

Based in Salt Lake City UT, C R England’s services include national, Mexico, and regional truckload service as well as dedicated and intermodal services. Other offerings include leasing, brokerage, LTL/parcel, supply chain engineering, special project engineering, warehousing, and global sourcing.
