Logistics provider Descartes Systems Group has introduced Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL) wireless services

Logistics provider Descartes Systems Group has introduced Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL) wireless services, integrating on-demand delivery route planning and execution with web-based GPS vehicle tracking, the company said.

According to Descartes, AVL is available on many mobile devices and wireless networks and enables delivery route changes on the fly. The service also provides real-time field data updates and tracks delivery performance against planned routes, the company said.

“Descartes’ AVL offerings do much more than simply provide visibility into shipment arrivals at a customer’s door,” said Chris Jones, Descartes executive vp, solutions and services. “By integrating on-demand route planning and optimization with real-time visibility, dispatchers and customer service staff gain access to a web-based view of delivery status in real-time. It also provides rapid notification of critical events affecting deliveries, enabling operators to make customer-focused decisions on routes and delivery reservations in real-time to reduce costs, streamline operations, and ensure consistent quality of service.”
