KISSIMMEE, FL. ALK Technologies’ CoPilot Truck 8 Professional has been integrated with XataNet, from Xata Corp., to offer users more functionality, improved routing, and more availability on a wider range of hardware platforms.

The announcement was made at the Truckload Carriers Assn.’s 2012 Annual Convention in Kissimmee, FL.

CoPilot Truck 8 Professional calculates optimal, truck-specific routes onboard without using mobile communications or off-board computations, ALK said. Access to offline highway and street-level digital maps is augmented by voice-guided, truck-specific turn-by-turn directions that are automatically generated with optimal new routes instantly calculated if a driver misses a turn or deviates from the planned route.

CoPilot Truck 8 Professional also includes lane assist to guide drivers to the proper lane; CoPilot ClearTurn, which offers a realistic view on the approach to complex intersections and highway exits; and updated PC*Miler 25 routing, which includes more than 3.5 million commercial truck restrictions and allowances, including bridge heights and clearances, load limits, weight limits and allowances, one-way road designations, left-hand and dangerous turn restrictions as well as truck-restricted, and truck-designated roads.

“CoPilot Truck 8 Professional brings Xata customers cutting-edge, voice-guided navigation combined with the power of XataNet’s fleet management and compliance tools,” said Michael Kornhauser, senior vice president-enterprise solutions, ALK Technologies. “This powerful combination maximizes operational efficiencies and enables transportation companies of all sizes to achieve fleet-wide safety and compliance objectives.  ALK is pleased to be able to deliver value to the industry through its strong partnership with Xata.”

The addition of XataNet adds real-time critical information on vehicle and driver performance. The data is collected and sorted so managers can view and analyze the data to reduce costs, increase safety and compliance, and improve customer satisfaction, Xata pointed out.

“As a leader in fleet optimization, we help our customers save time, fuel and money as well as comply with changing regulations, and CoPilot Truck 8 Professional plays a major role by providing optimal routes with the safety of voice guidance,” said Christian Schenk, vice president, product marketing, Xata. “The added functionality continues the success of Xata’s strategy to partner with other leading industry software and hardware companies to provide the power and convenience of best-in-class solutions to today’s fleets.”
