Yesterday, Charlotte-area driver trainers and others had a rare opportunity to see I-85 from a Class 8 truck driver’s perspective, when the American Trucking Assn.’s (ATA) national Share the Road highway safety tour came to town.

Representatives from the ATA, North Carolina Trucking Assn., North Carolina Highway Patrol, the Governors Highway Safety Program, driver trainers from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School (CMS), AAA Carolinas and the Share the Road sponsors Mack Trucks and Michelin North America all gathered at Mack Trucks of Charlotte to talk about highway safety and see professional truck drivers demonstrate how to share the road safely with trucks.

Following the demonstration, CMS driver trainers along with photographers and reporters had the opportunity to climb into the passenger seats of Class 8 trucks and go for a ride on I-85 with five elite driver members of the Share the Road team. Each driver has logged at least a million accident-free miles.

More information about the Share the Road program is available at www.atastr.org.
