Highway and ramp closures in south Florida over the next few weeks could cause traffic headaches for drivers.
The ramp from southbound Florida’s Turnpike to I-595, U.S. 441 and S.R. 84 will be closed for the next two weekends. The interchange is a popular route for those headed south to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to a Sun-Sentinel report.
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Sunday. During the turnpike ramp closure, drivers can detour by exiting at Sunrise Blvd. or Griffin Rd.
Additionally, all westbound lanes of Hollywood Blvd. will be closed at I-95 Sunday through Thursday nights for three weeks. In late September, all of Hollywood Boulevard at I-95 will be closed, with closures of eastbound and westbound Stirling Rd. at I-95 planned in October.
As part of a project to extend the I-95 express lanes to Fort Lauderdale, crews are widening the I-95 bridges over Hollywood Blvd. and demolishing some of the existing structures. The closure will last from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Westbound Hollywood Blvd. traffic and drivers who want to go south on I-95 will be detoured north on I-95 to Sheridan St., then west to the southbound I-95 entrance ramp. Northbound I-95 drivers will follow the same detour.
