ReposiTrak unveils Touchless Traceability solution to simplify lot code capture in distribution centers
Key takeaways
- ReposiTrak’s Touchless Traceability allows DCs to capture lot codes without scanning, saving labor and avoiding workflow delays.
- Cloud-based storage ensures refrigerated fleets maintain accurate traceability data required by FDA and major retailers.
- Automated error detection corrects supplier data issues, improving the reliability of perishable goods tracking and distribution.
ReposiTrak recently launched its Touchless Traceability solution for distribution centers (DCs). The company, which operates the world’s largest food traceability and regulatory compliance network, leverages its inventory management and out-of-stock reduction SaaS platform to capture and manage lot codes and shipping data automatically.
The solution addresses a challenge for refrigerated and temperature-sensitive supply chains: Ensuring accurate lot-level traceability for all products leaving a DC without slowing operations or adding manual scanning steps. By linking existing supplier data to DC shipping data, ReposiTrak eliminates the need for case- or item-level scanning while maintaining regulatory and retailer compliance.
Most warehouse management systems (WMS) are not designed to store the Traceability Lot Code (TLC) or TLC Source required under the Food and Drug Administration's Food Safety Modernization Act 204 final rule. ReposiTrak stores this data in a secure, cloud-based repository.
Data accuracy is critical for refrigerated fleets handling perishable goods. ReposiTrak reports that 40% of traceability files initially received from suppliers contain errors, including mis-keyed identifiers or missing fields. Every file is validated through a 500-plus point error detection and correction process, ensuring reliable traceability without manual intervention.
“Our approach couples data from the distributor or wholesaler’s existing systems and data from their suppliers to create full, accurate food traceability records,” said Randy Fields, ReposiTrak chairman and CEO. “It’s the simplest way to get traceability done—without adding new hardware or extra work for your DC team.”
